The New Year is around the corner. Although the pandemic is still far from over, one cannot help looking forward to 2024 with a new hope and fervor. While there are still travel restrictions, several countries have opened their doors to tourists. If you are having trouble deciding which place to visit to welcome the New Year, Singapore would be a good choice. Apart from giving you the chance to enjoy numerous attractions and activities, Singapore also offers you the opportunity to see Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2024. This is one of the most popular countdowns that happen in Singapore on New Year’s Eve and also one of the fun things to do at Marina Bay.
What to Expect at Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2024?
One of the most popular features of the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown every year is the fireworks. However, the fireworks at Marina Bay have been officially cancelled since last year to prevent crowding in the wake of the ongoing pandemic. However, this does not mean that the countdown would not be exciting. On the other hand, some exciting things are lined up for the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2024. Moreover, instead of just the New Year’s Eve, some of the festivities would be seen throughout the month of December.
Shine a Light
Shine a Light is a program that began during Countdown 2024. It entails the use of 60 light beams that have been circularly positioned at the Marina Bay. Shine a Light was inaugurated on December 1 and would happen every night till December 31. You would get to see the lights displaying different colors from 1st to 28th December, including white, yellow, amber, and cyan. Each color represents a particular beneficiary. White is for vulnerable communities, yellow is for elderly with dementia, amber is for migrant workers, and cyan is for youth mental health. From 29th to 31st December, the lights would be magenta to celebrate the spirit and partnerships between Singaporeans that were created to build more and equal opportunities for everyone.
Shine a Light is being organized by The Majurity Trust, a philanthropic organisation run locally. They collected funds by arranging a fundraising where people and organizations were encouraged to adopt the 60 light beams. All the funds raised went towards the upliftment and welfare of needy communities like at-risk families, dementia patients and their caregivers, youth dealing with mental issues, etc.
Share the Moment
Share the Moment is another show that will be seen at the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2024. This show will be held from December 26 to December 31 from 8 PM to 10:30 PM, at an interval of 15 minutes. Share the Moment includes a series of light projection shows that are actually the artworks of local students. These artworks are based on the inspiring stories of people who have been nominated for President’s Volunteerism & Philanthropy Awards in 2021. All the stories are about how people of Singapore came together to help and care for each other in the last year. These artworks would be projected on the façade of some of the most important structures or buildings along the Marina Bay, which are the Merlion, The Fullerton Hotel, and the ArtScience Museum.
Waterfront Promenade
Another feature that would complete the Marina Bay Singapore Countdown 2024 is the Waterfront Promenade. This would also happen at the Marina Bay waterfront throughout December between 8 PM and 10:30 PM. Here, you would get to see an interesting array of special light projections and installations while walking on a tree canopy. These installations and projections include a kaleidoscope of colors, inflatable bird structures, a galaxy of stars, etc. All the installations you would see here represent the spirit of hopefulness and creativity. You would not only get to see these amazing installations but also take plenty of pictures of them.
Although you may not be able to see Marina Bay fireworks 2024 at the countdown, the New Year celebrations in Singapore will not be devoid of fireworks. On the other hand, the fireworks would be set off in different places in Singapore; these locations have not been disclosed yet. In short, it is possible for you to see the New Year fireworks from the comfort of your home, hotel room, the restaurant, or one of the spectacular rooftop bars in Singapore you are celebrating at.
